Christmas Day Brings Rare Rains to Hyderabad
On Christmas Day, Telangana experienced light to moderate rains, creating a festive and refreshing atmosphere. In Hyderabad, dark clouds covered the skies, and a light drizzle brought joy to residents celebrating the holiday.
For the first time in recent years, Christmas was celebrated in cool weather. Throughout the day, the city remained overcast, with many areas reporting light rain. Morning temperatures dropped due to the cloudy conditions, adding to the festive charm.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Hyderabad recorded light drizzle of about 1-2 mm in the morning. The temperature hovered around 20 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has predicted that similar weather will persist until December 29.
The IMD forecast stated, “Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely in isolated places across Telangana. Mist or hazy conditions with light drizzle may prevail in the morning hours in Hyderabad.”
A local weather enthusiast, known as “Telangana Weatherman,” shared on X (formerly Twitter) that such widespread rains on Christmas Day are rare. “To my memory, I have not seen such rain in the last ten years in the city. Though it’s been light to moderate rain, it is very rare,” he posted.
He also noted that 2023 had a warmer and drier winter, while 2024 has been cooler with more rainy days. This unusual weather brought a unique twist to Christmas celebrations in Hyderabad, making the day even more memorable for its residents.
