Hyderabad Experiences a Week of Rain-Free Weather

In Hyderabad, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the city and the rest of Telangana State will have less rain for the next week. The IMD expects only one or two instances of rain over the next six days, and temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees Celsius. Other districts in the state may experience temperatures nearing 35 degrees Celsius.

However, the delay in repairing roads that were dug up for various purposes, such as laying drainage and water pipelines, is becoming a problem for commuters and residents. During the rainy season, these roads become accident-prone areas. Activists have pointed out that the roads laid by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and private agencies under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) are of poor quality and have been severely damaged in several areas. This is causing inconvenience to commuters.

Many areas, including Moosarambagh, Begumpet, Indira Nagar, Langer Houz, Malakpet, Saidabad, Chaderghat, Bandlaguda, Falaknuma, Karwan, Jiyaguda, Amberpet, Puranapul, Bahadurpura, Kishan Bagh, and others have roads with potholes and other damages. Over 3,500 potholes have been reported after the rain. The GHMC claims that it is doing patchwork and repairing main stretches in the city after receiving complaints. However, filling potholes will take time as dry weather is required for the patchwork.

The situation is worse in areas where flyovers are under construction or other work is ongoing, such as Nacharam, Kavadiguda, Aram Ghar, Mehdipatnam, Nampally, Asif Nagar, Moghalpura, Santosh Nagar, and others. The recent heavy rain has caused further damage to these roads. Both the new and old city areas have been affected, including Srinagar Colony, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Ameerpet, Madhapur, Secunderabad, Shaikpet, Narayanguda, and more.

Many citizens have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the poor quality of the roads and the inconvenience caused by potholes. The roads have become a nightmare for commuters, with asphalt erosion and blacktopping being washed away by the rain, leaving large potholes behind.
