Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru to be Declared Union Territories, Claims Owaisi

AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, reiterated his belief that Hyderabad could become a Union Territory (UT) in the future. He also suggested that cities like Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai might also become UTs along with Hyderabad.

During a discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, Owaisi expressed his views in 2021. However, the then Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, stated that the Union government had no plans to make Hyderabad or any other city a Union Territory. He condemned Owaisi’s statement and pointed out that he had made similar remarks during the agitation for separate Telangana.

Reddy added that Owaisi had previously blamed the Congress for the situation and was now blaming the BJP.
