Hundreds of young Indians who went abroad in search of jobs were rescued from cyber fraud cafés in Thailand. These individuals were held captive and forced to commit online crimes.
The rescue operation was carried out with the swift action of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar. He made the necessary arrangements to bring them back to India.
Authorities have identified a total of 540 victims, including 42 from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Two flights were arranged for their return, each carrying 270 people. Initially, they were taken to Mae Sot, Thailand, before being flown to Delhi. The first flight left on Monday, while the second was scheduled for Tuesday.
According to the victims, they were looking for job opportunities abroad when they were tricked by cybercriminals. Fraudsters in Thailand, working through local agents, lured them with fake job offers. Once they arrived, they were sold to cyber fraud cafés in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar. There, they were forced to commit online scams and were tortured if they refused, with some even facing electric shocks.
The situation came to light when Madhukar Reddy, a young man from Rangapet village in Telangana, was reported to be trapped in one of these cafés. In response, Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar immediately wrote to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and alerted diplomatic offices in Myanmar and Thailand.
As a result, the Myanmar government sent its army to rescue the captives. Through coordinated efforts between India and Myanmar, all victims are now being safely brought back home.
