HMWSSB Takes Action Against Drinking Water Misuse Ahead of Summer

Hyderabad is preparing for a possible water shortage in the coming months. To prevent wastage, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is taking strict action against the misuse of drinking water.

Recently, a resident of Jubilee Hills was fined ₹1,000 for using treated drinking water to wash his motorbike. The issue was discovered during an inspection by HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy. While traveling from Punjagutta to Jubilee Hills, he noticed water leaking near Road No. 78. He instructed officials to investigate, and they found the resident misusing water. A notice was issued to him, and authorities warned against such actions.

With summer approaching, officials are becoming more concerned about falling groundwater levels and the increasing demand for water tankers. The Water Board has urged people to save water and avoid using drinking water for non-essential activities like washing vehicles, watering plants, or cleaning outdoor areas.

Currently, HMWSSB supplies 550 million gallons of water daily to over 1.37 million connections in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Outer Ring Road (ORR) areas. As the water crisis worsens, authorities have warned that stricter fines and legal action will be taken against repeat offenders.

The Water Board is asking all citizens to use water responsibly. By avoiding wastage, residents can help ensure that drinking water remains available for everyone in the city.
