Hyderabad: To address long-standing sewage problems in the city, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is taking action. Managing Director Ashok Reddy recently visited several areas under Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division number six for an inspection.

During his visit, local residents brought up the issue of sewage overflow in their neighborhoods. Places like Ameerpet, Yellareddyguda, and Krishna Nagar ‘C’ block are facing significant problems. In Ameerpet, locals reported that sewage overflow is causing water to enter the cellars of their buildings.

One of the main reasons for this issue is damage to the sewerage lines due to ongoing metro construction. The damaged lines are causing blockages, leading to sewage overflow onto the streets. Fixing the problem will require road cutting, but this could disrupt traffic since these are major roads.

In addition to solving the current issues, Ashok Reddy emphasized the need to strengthen the sewage network to prevent such problems in the future. He also tested new smart valve technology in Sanathnagar. This technology runs entirely on solar energy and has a battery backup to avoid power issues during maintenance.
