The Jawaharlal Nehru Journalists’ Mutually Aided Cooperative Housing Society in Hyderabad has given a deadline of August 10 to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to resolve pending land litigation and remove encroachments on 38 acres of land in Pet Basheerabad. If the HMDA fails to take action, the society plans to stage an indefinite sit-in at their office. The society had paid Rs 12.33 crore to the government in 2011 for a total of 70 acres of land, with 32 acres being handed over in 2018. The Supreme Court had directed the government to hand over the remaining 38 acres without creating any third-party interest. The society expressed concern over the delay in receiving the land, as many members have suffered due to the Covid pandemic and are eager to have a home of their own. They believe that the Chief Minister, who has supported various sections of society, will approve their request. The society thanked the Chief Minister for his support in handing over the 32 acres in Nizampet and filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court. The society’s vice-president stated that the Chief Minister always supports their society and will soon hand over the remaining 38 acres. The CEO of the society explained the steps that will be taken to protect their interests, including removing encroachments and resolving legal cases with the help of revenue officials.
