A record-breaking number of women voters participated in the recent historic Indian elections. Approximately 642 million proud Indian voters took part in the voting process, setting a world record. This achievement surpasses the voters of all G7 countries combined by 1.5 times and exceeds the voters of the 27 countries in the EU by 2.5 times.
The Chief Election Commissioner expressed gratitude to all voters, especially women, for their participation. Around 312 million women participated in this election, marking the highest turnout ever recorded globally. This year’s elections also saw a significant decrease in repolling incidents, with only 39 occurrences recorded in 2024 compared to 540 in 2019.
Out of the 39 repoll incidents, 25 happened in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, with just 14 reported in the rest of India. Additionally, 27 states did not witness any repolls. Central paramilitary forces will remain post-MCC in states like Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Manipur, and Uttar Pradesh to monitor any post-poll violence.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar highlighted the importance of these elections, not only because of the unprecedented voter turnout but also due to the efficient management and handling of the electoral process. This contributed to the smooth and peaceful conduct of the polls.
