The Telangana High Court’s single bench of Justice Pulla Karthik has refused to stop the teachers’ recruitment test (TRT) notification issued on February 29, 2024. This notification is for hiring 11,062 teachers in government schools in the state. The court has postponed the hearing on this matter until August 28.
The case was brought to court by Rompally Ashok and nine others who are aspiring candidates for the TS DSC examination. This exam is scheduled to take place from July 18 to August 5 to fill the 11,062 teacher positions in various government schools. The candidates argued that the DSC-2024 is being conducted hastily, without giving them enough time to prepare, thus depriving them of a fair chance to secure a government job.
The senior counsel representing the petitioners informed the court that since 2022, the petitioners have been busy with various competitive exams conducted by TSPSC, NEET, and other central recruitment agencies. They claim they do not have enough time to prepare for the mega DSC exam. The Additional Advocate-General stated that the DSC-2024 exam has already begun and cannot be postponed for the sake of the petitioners.
After hearing both sides, the judge decided to adjourn the writ until August 28.
In another case, a PIL was filed in the Telangana High Court seeking employment opportunities for tribals and laborers in the sand reaches of the Godavari river. The court issued notices to several officials and presidents of quarry labor contract societies to respond to the petitioner’s contentions. The petitioner, Salugu Bikshapathi, requested that manual labor be deployed to load sand into trucks and vehicles in order to provide employment to tribals in the area.
The PIL was filed by Bikshapathi, an agriculturist and reporter from Bhadradri-Kothagudem, who was concerned about the use of heavy machinery instead of manual labor in the sand reaches. The court has adjourned the hearing in this case for four weeks to allow for the filing of counter-affidavits.
