Telangana High Court Refuses to Postpone Group-II Exams

On Monday, Justice Pulla Karthik of the Telangana High Court heard a petition filed by Ravula Jyothi and 22 other students. These students, hailing from different districts of Telangana, sought to delay the Group-II competitive examinations. However, the court refused to postpone the exams.

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) informed the court that the Group-II exams are scheduled for December 15-16, 2024. A total of 5,51,000 candidates have applied, and over 1 lakh hall tickets had already been downloaded by December 9, 2024. The commission highlighted that all necessary arrangements, including logistics, invigilators, security, and exam centers, were in place. It argued that delaying the exams for a few candidates would deprive many others of their opportunity to write the exams.

The petitioners’ counsel pointed out a scheduling conflict. They stated that the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) had issued a notification on July 27, 2024, for 7,951 posts, including Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, and others. The RRB exams are set to take place from December 16-18, 2024, overlapping with the Group-II exams. The counsel argued that rescheduling the Group-II exams would allow the petitioners to appear for both exams, benefiting the students.

After hearing both sides, Justice Pulla Karthik declined to stay the Group-II exams. However, the court issued notices to several authorities, including the Chief Secretary of Telangana, the Secretary of TGPSC, the Secretary of the Railway Recruitment Board in Secunderabad, and the Union Railway Ministry in New Delhi. The writ petition has been adjourned for further proceedings.
