Heavy rain in Hyderabad causes chaos

Hyderabad experienced a short but heavy rainfall that disrupted daily life for many people. The rain lasted only a few minutes but left many stranded and caused traffic disruptions. This was especially difficult for areas that were already struggling with rainwater entering their colonies from previous rainfall.

The heavy rains started in the afternoon in areas like Secunderabad, Jubilee Hills, Khairtabad, Jeedimetla, Kanchanbagh, Rajendranagar, Jahanuma, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, and Quthbullapur. The highest rainfall was recorded in the East Anand Bagh area with 24.3 mm, followed closely by Lalapet with 21.5 mm, and Trimulgherry with 20.5 mm.

Other areas such as Banjara Hills, Saroornagar, Saidabad, Uppal, Malkajgiri, Nampally, and Gachibowli also experienced significant rainfall. As a result of the heavy rain, there was water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, causing waterlogging. Commuters faced traffic congestion and were stranded. Some areas also experienced power outages.

Frustrated citizens took to social media to criticize the government for the city’s water inundation. They highlighted the poor infrastructure and lack of preparedness for extreme weather events. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad predicted light rainfall for the next day but did not issue any warnings for July 31.

According to IMD, the city can expect light rain or drizzle over the next two days. The maximum temperature will be around 28 to 29 degrees Celsius, providing some relief from the hot weather. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 22 degrees Celsius.
