Adilabad: A New Health Initiative for Students
In an effort to shape students into responsible future citizens of India, Adilabad District Collector Rajarshi Shah held a review meeting on Thursday at the Collectorate. The meeting included principals, assistant teachers, and student champions as part of the health school programme, a unique initiative designed by the Collector.
During the meeting, student champions from government schools shared how the programme has positively impacted their personal lives, their peers, and their families. The Collector emphasized the importance of following six key principles during morning and evening prayers in schools. He encouraged students to discuss these principles at home with their parents. Additionally, awareness was raised about the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco, urging students to help their families avoid such substances.
The Collector highlighted that some students who previously consumed tobacco or gutka have now pledged to quit. He explained that the programme is teaching students new habits, helping them stay healthy and stress-free. Students have also adopted better hygiene practices, such as washing their hands and plates after meals.
Since the health school programme began, notable changes have been observed among students. For instance, children who previously avoided eating vegetables, tomatoes, and curry leaves have started including them in their meals after learning about their nutritional benefits. Even those who disliked chicken, eggs, bananas, or peanuts have begun eating them with enthusiasm. The programme has also helped students steer clear of harmful habits.
The District Collector praised the improvements, noting that it has been 22 days since the programme’s launch on November 14. He expressed satisfaction with the progress students have made in adopting healthier habits and maintaining proper hygiene. Certificates were awarded to student champions in recognition of their efforts.
The Collector urged everyone involved to ensure that the health school programme reaches every student in the district. He stressed the importance of spreading awareness about the initiative to benefit more children.
The event was attended by DEO Praneetha, MEOs, students, and other participants who supported the programme’s mission to create a healthier and more aware student community.
