Wearing sarees and dhotis with tight knots around the waist for long periods can lead to skin problems. Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a doctor from Hyderabad, has explained the health risks associated with this habit. When the knot is tied too tightly, it can rub against the skin, causing irritation. This friction, combined with sweating, can result in itching and dark spots on the skin.
In some rare cases, prolonged irritation from tight knots can lead to more serious issues, including cancer. Dr. Kumar shared the example of a woman who wore sarees with a tight knot for 34 years. Over time, she developed an itchy rash around her waist. Eventually, the rash turned into a wound that wouldn’t heal. Upon examination, doctors discovered that the wound had started spreading, requiring medical intervention.
To avoid such problems, Dr. Kumar advises people not to tie saree or dhoti knots too tightly. Loose knots can help prevent skin irritation and reduce the risk of long-term health complications.
