Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat-wave alert (yellow) and is forecasting a dry spell with temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius. In response, the Health department has released guidelines for citizens on how to stay safe during this hot weather.
According to the advisory from the Director of Public Health B Ravinder Naik, people are advised to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, even if they do not feel thirsty. They are also encouraged to use Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and consume homemade drinks like lemon water, butter milk, or fruit juices with added salts.
Citizens have been instructed to carry water with them when traveling, eat fruits and vegetables with high water content, wear loose cotton clothing, and limit outdoor activities to cooler times of the day. Special attention should be given to infants, children, pregnant women, and those with certain medical conditions who are at greater risk of heat-related illnesses.
It is recommended that people avoid being in the sun between noon and 3 pm, refrain from strenuous activities in the afternoon, and not leave children or pets in parked vehicles. Additionally, individuals should seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as altered mental state, high body temperature, headache, dizziness, nausea, or rapid heartbeat.
Overall, it is important for everyone to take precautions during the hot weather to prevent heat-related illnesses. If in doubt, seek medical assistance from nearby government facilities.
