Hyderabad: Students at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) held a protest on Saturday against what they say is an attempt by the State government to auction off university land. The students were upset by recent comments made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT Minister Sridhar Babu about the university land and the protests.
The Students’ Union criticized the Chief Minister and Minister, accusing them of trying to hand over university land to private parties instead of addressing the state’s financial problems. They claimed the government is trying to shift blame for the financial crisis and said the CM’s comments were inappropriate and disrespectful.
The students demanded an apology from the Chief Minister and asked him to speak more respectfully when addressing students. They also warned that they would organize a protest outside the CM’s camp office if their concerns were ignored.
According to the students, they were holding a peaceful protest and trying to burn an effigy to show their disagreement when police arrived and surrounded them. They accused the government of using force to silence their protest and also said the CM and Minister made misleading statements in the State Assembly.
