Finance Minister Harish Rao of Telangana praised photojournalists for their contribution to the Telangana struggle. He recognized the risks they took to capture powerful images during the movement. These photographs will serve as a testament to the hardships faced in achieving separate statehood and will inspire future generations.

During the World Photography Day celebrations organized by the Telangana Photojournalists Association, Harish Rao presented awards to the photojournalists. He highlighted their active involvement in the 14-year-long Telangana struggle, which was unlike anything seen elsewhere in the world. Journalists played a crucial role in documenting the events and exposing the challenges faced by the people. The Minister acknowledged their bravery and dedication.

Harish Rao also mentioned the government’s commitment to the welfare of journalists. He mentioned the earlier announcement of a Rs 100 crore corpus fund and financial support provided to the families of journalists who lost their lives due to Covid. The government has already spent over 32 crores, benefiting 22,000 journalists through the Aarogyasri scheme. Additionally, he assured that photojournalists will have their profession reflected on their Government issued Accreditation Cards, instead of being labeled as ‘photographer’.
