Former Minister Harish Rao Files Petition to Quash FIR Against Him
Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS party leader T Harish Rao has filed a Criminal Petition in the Telangana High Court, requesting the court to quash an FIR registered against him. The FIR (No. 1205/2024) was filed on December 3, 2024, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act, 2008.
The FIR was based on a complaint by Gadhagoni Chakradhar Goud, a real estate dealer, at the Panjagutta Police Station. In his complaint, Goud alleged that Harish Rao falsely implicated him in multiple criminal cases. Goud claimed that Harish Rao was displeased with his growing popularity in the Siddipet district due to his social work and efforts to help people resolve their problems.
According to the complaint, Harish Rao allegedly used his influence in the State Intelligence Department to tap Goud’s phone and monitor his movements. Additionally, it was claimed that Radhakishan Rao, a former DCP of the Task Force, threatened Goud on Harish Rao’s instructions, asking him to stop his social work in the Siddipet district. When Goud refused, criminal cases were reportedly filed against him, leading to his judicial remand.
In his petition, Harish Rao refuted these allegations, stating that the complaint was filed with malicious intent to tarnish his image. He argued that Goud’s accusations were baseless and politically motivated. Harish Rao pointed out that Goud had contested against him in the 2023 assembly elections on a BSP ticket and lost. Rao claimed that Goud was unable to accept his electoral defeat and filed the complaint out of spite.
The petition is expected to come up for hearing before a Single Judge Bench in the Telangana High Court soon.
