Harish Expresses Shock Over 'Declining' State Public Education System

Harish Rao Criticizes Telangana Government Over Education Crisis

Hyderabad: BRS leader T Harish Rao on Monday raised serious concerns about the current state of education in Telangana. He claimed that the education system in the state is deteriorating, especially in SC, ST, BC, and Minority welfare hostels, and stressed the need for urgent action.

In an open letter to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Harish Rao highlighted that the public education system has been pushed to the brink of collapse in the past nine months. He pointed out that students, instead of focusing on their studies, are being forced to protest in the streets for basic needs like clean food, safe shelter, and functional classrooms.

Harish Rao added that many schools are shutting down due to a shortage of teachers, leading to a loss of public trust in government schools. As a result, the number of students dropping out of school is rising. He referenced government data showing that 1,864 schools in the state are completely empty, and 9,447 schools have fewer than 30 students. Additionally, schools with fewer than 100 students total 9,609. This means that nearly 20,000 out of 26,287 government schools are in poor condition under the current administration, according to Harish Rao.

The BRS leader also expressed concerns about the worsening situation in gurukuls (residential schools). These institutions, once known for their excellence, are now facing neglect and chaos under the Revanth Reddy government. Welfare hostels are reportedly in such bad shape that issues like filth and neglect have become common headlines. Harish Rao urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action to address these problems, stating that the future of students and the integrity of the state’s education system are at stake.
