In Hyderabad, Gutha Amith Reddy, a leader from Nalgonda and son of Telangana Legislative Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy, joined the Congress party on Monday with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy present.
This decision follows months of discussions within the Gutha family, with Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy playing a key role in convincing Amith Reddy to switch parties. AICC Telangana incharge Deepa Dasmunshi welcomed the move, and Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy accompanied Amith Reddy to the Chief Minister’s residence to officially welcome him with a party kanduva.
Amith Reddy’s decision to join Congress is seen as a boost for the party, with expectations that his father, council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy, may also follow suit as he has been unhappy with BRS. Sukender Reddy has recently criticized the party’s candidate selection process and made negative remarks about KCR, the party chief. He feels that the party needs to reflect on its performance in the Assembly polls rather than blaming other parties.
In a separate development, Nangi Devender Reddy, Joint Convenor of the State BJP’s NRI Cell, also joined the Congress party on Monday in the presence of Deepa Dasmunshi. He is known for his work with the Bharat Pravasi Foundation and the Telangana Gulf Workers Association, among other organizations.
