Hyderabad: Health Minister C Damodar Raja Narsimha has instructed officials to ensure that basic medical services like general medicine, surgery, gynaecology, and paediatrics are available in Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (VVP) hospitals.

The Minister held a review meeting to discuss proposals made by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI). These proposals aim to strengthen the performance of Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) hospitals and its role as the secondary healthcare directorate. He highlighted that a majority of patients are treated in district and area hospitals under TVVP. Therefore, these hospitals should be equipped with all necessary facilities.

The Minister advised officials to consider both current and future needs when making changes to the proposals. This includes thinking about outpatient (OP), inpatient (IP), and bed capacity. He emphasized that hospitals should follow Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) and have the appropriate number of clinical and non-clinical staff. The government is willing to approve additional posts if needed. He also stressed that staff promotions and other service-related matters should be handled carefully to avoid legal issues.

Officials informed the Minister that in many places, district hospitals have been converted into teaching hospitals, while some Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs) have come under the control of VVP. The Minister urged officials to propose the necessary staff and equipment for these PHCs and CHCs. He reiterated that basic medical services must be available in VVP hospitals to meet the healthcare needs of patients.

The Minister stated that the government’s goal is to provide medical care to 85% of patients within the districts. To achieve this, he emphasized the need to improve medical services in district hospitals, area hospitals, and community health centres.

During the meeting, the Minister also inquired about patient conditions at MGM Hospital in Warangal. He expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the officials there and warned that action would be taken if there is any negligence in providing medical services. The Minister announced that he would soon visit MGM Hospital to inspect all the wards personally.
