Government questioned by High Court for granting permission to establish bar in residential area

The High Court in Rangareddy has raised concerns about the state government’s decision to allow a bar and restaurant to operate in a residential area on Hayatnagar-Saheb Nagar road. The court has issued a notice to the government, asking for an explanation.

Those summoned to provide explanations include the Chief Secretary, Excise Department, Home Department Principal Secretaries, GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation), Excise Department, Rangareddy District Collector, Rachakonda Police Commissioner, and Hayatnagar SAHOs (Sub Assistant Health Officers).

The controversy started when a Class VI student named R Vaishnavi filed a petition with the High Court. Vaishnavi expressed concerns about the negative impacts of having a bar and restaurant so close to residential areas. She mentioned difficulties faced by residents, especially women devotees, in reaching a nearby temple because of the bar’s presence.

Vaishnavi also brought up worries about alcohol consumption and violence happening in the area. The High Court took the matter seriously and started suo motu proceedings. A division bench, consisting of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Anil Kumar, was directed to investigate. The court has postponed the hearing for four weeks to further examine the case.
