Government officials facing challenges as Krishna Mandir persists through various difficulties

The Prachin Gopla Krishna mandir in Misri Ganj, Hyderabad, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. Two elderly women currently run the temple, facing various challenges. Despite their physical weakness, they show determination in maintaining the temple. They have lived in the Old City for their entire lives.

The temple has a history of around 400 years but has not received attention from the State Archaeology or other government authorities. The women recall instances where police officials asked them to remove the temple flag. The temple, adorned with Nagabhandam and Kurmam, reflects an ancient tradition. However, the temple’s surroundings have been encroached upon, making it difficult to restore the temple to its former glory.

Efforts to make improvements to the temple, such as adding a door for devotees, have faced resistance. Despite these challenges, the temple is now under Sri Hampi Virupaksha Vidyaranya Maha Sansthan, which has helped it survive. Local devotees express concern about the state of the temple and call for changes to the Hindu Endowments Act to protect temples like this one in the Old City.
