Government of Telangana receives notices from High Court for failure to conduct local bodies elections

The Telangana High Court’s division bench, led by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaramji, has issued notices to various government bodies, including the Chief Election Commissioner, Chief Electoral Officer, State Election Commission, and the Commissioner of Panchayati Raj department. The notices require a response by April 20th, and request reasons for not holding local body elections since the last polls were conducted in 2019.

The plea was filed by Rapolu Bhaskar, an advocate from Hyderabad, who is seeking direction to conduct elections for various positions, including zilla parishads, mandal parishads, and gram panchayats in the state. These positions have been vacant for years, and the petitioner argues that the lack of elections is hindering development and welfare activities in villages across the state.
