The government doctors in Telangana are threatening to go on strike if their demands are not met. There are 26 medical colleges in the state that could be affected by the strike. The doctors have given the government seven days to address their demands. They recently staged a protest at the office of the Director of Medical Education and about 250 doctors participated.
The demands of the doctors include clearing pay revision arrears that have been pending for seven years. They also want general transfers to be done, which have been pending for five years. Additionally, they are seeking fair pay for absorbed doctors from Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad and Director of Health to Director of Medical Education. Other demands include a career advancement scheme for professors, a review of the private practice ban, and the construction of a new building for Osmania Hospital.
If their demands are not met within seven days, the doctors plan to go on a statewide indefinite strike that would involve all 26 medical colleges in Telangana.
However, there has been some progress in addressing their concerns. Officials have come forward to discuss the problems with the doctors. Discussions have taken place with TVVP Commissioner and TSMSIDC Chairman Errolla Srinivas. They have promised to arrange further discussions in the presence of the Health Minister in the coming days. The next steps will be announced on September 25 based on the outcome of these discussions.
