Government doctors in Telangana request a 20% limit on transfers.

The Telangana Government Doctors’ Association (TGDA) in Hyderabad demanded that the State government cap transfers at 20 per cent. The doctors held a press conference at the office of the Director of Medical Education (DME, where they emphasized the need for transparent transfer processes.

In 2018, the State government had imposed a 40 per cent cap on transfers to address potential issues in the health sector. However, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, who was the Health Secretary at the time, believed that a 40 per cent cap would disrupt services and limited the cap to 20 per cent. The doctors are now urging the Chief Minister to maintain this 20 per cent cap.

The doctors also requested immunity for the association office-bearers and expressed concerns about the lack of infrastructure in new medical colleges. They suggested reducing the number of colleges to address these issues and mentioned that the NMC had penalized Kamareddy Medical College for inadequate infrastructure.

Additionally, the doctors highlighted challenges associated with the increased retirement age of 65, stating that many doctors are not prepared for this change. They also mentioned difficulties in applying for VRS due to non-acceptance by authorities.
