Political unrest continues in Pakistan as supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan clash with law enforcement. The situation has escalated following Khan’s arrest, with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers angry over the government’s actions. Lahore Police have arrested over 340 people for allegedly attacking the Corps Commander House in Lahore Cantt, while there are reports of a possible revolution waiting to happen. The Pakistan Army is also reportedly split over Khan’s arrest, with middle and lower ranked generals unhappy with the leadership of Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir.
The government has suspended mobile internet services and is clamping down on PTI workers, with Information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb saying there was no other way to react to the developments. Imran Khan has continued to stir tensions, saying he will not stop his fight for “Haqeeqi Azaadi till the last drop of my blood.” The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) will stage a protest against the Pakistan chief justice Umar Ata Bandial and the judiciary for allegedly favouring Khan outside the apex court premises. Khan has also alleged that a plan is being hatched in London to jail him and his wife.
