State Government Rules Out District Reorganisation in Telangana

The Telangana State government has clarified that there are no plans to reorganize the current 33 districts in the state. On Monday, Revenue and Information and Public Relations Minister P. Srinivas Reddy stated, “There is no proposal either to reduce or increase the number of districts.”

Speaking in the Legislative Council, the Minister emphasized that the government has not considered any plans to alter the existing district boundaries. Instead, the focus remains on pressuring the Central government to release funds promised under the AP Reorganisation Act. These funds are intended to support the development of backward districts, and the state is also seeking the release of pending amounts from the last four years.

Minister Srinivas Reddy highlighted that the development of backward districts is the government’s top priority. It is worth noting that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government increased the number of districts in Telangana from 10 to 33 following the state’s formation after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. However, there has been speculation about potential district reorganisation since the Congress party came to power at the national level.
