Government and L&T in dispute over Medigadda repairs

The issue of repairing the damaged portion of the Medigadda barrage is still unresolved. The government believes that L&T, the main agency responsible for the repairs, should do the work because they have not completed the project and the government has not given them permission to leave. However, L&T argues that the project was completed and handed over to the government in 2018.

The government wants temporary repairs to be done before the monsoon season, but L&T says they are no longer responsible for the project. The government insists that L&T should still take care of the safety of the structures, even though the barrage has been in operation since 2018. The estimated cost of repairing the damaged piers is around Rs 500 crore.

To address the situation, a five-member committee has been appointed by the government. The committee, led by the Engineer in Chief (General) Irrigation, will implement interim measures and conduct further investigations at the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages before the monsoon season.
