After the flood waters receded in Delhi, Development Minister Gopal Rai has directed the health checkup of animals in flood-affected areas. The Animal Husbandry Department has formed eight teams to conduct medical health checks and rescue animals. Two mobile vans have been assigned for animal rehabilitation programs. Additionally, orders have been issued to ensure sufficient animal feed at the relief camps.
Rai mentioned that there has been no rainfall in Delhi for the past few days and the water level of the Yamuna river is gradually decreasing. However, people and their animals are still living in the relief camps, and there is an increased risk of disease outbreaks due to stagnant water. Mosquitoes thrive in stagnant water, and the spread of infectious illnesses among animals has also increased. Therefore, the Animal Husbandry Department has been asked to relocate the animals trapped in flood-affected areas and provide medicines and vaccines in the camps.
Rai emphasized that it is the government’s obligation to assist the individuals affected by the disaster and ensure the well-being of livestock. Guidelines have been issued to the Animal Husbandry Department to prevent the spread of diseases post-floods. Flood-affected areas are being closely monitored.
“Our goal now is to gather consistent information from the field and improve collaboration among relevant agencies for prompt and effective rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts,” added Rai. This is to ensure that people living in flood relief camps and their cattle do not face any difficulties.
