The Telangana police have increased security measures and started checking vehicles in Hyderabad after the election code came into effect. In these checks, a large amount of gold and hawala money was seized in the city.
On Monday night, 16 kg of gold and 300 kg of silver were seized at Basheerbagh in the Abids police station area. Additionally, 6 kg of gold was found in Chandranagar police station area. The total value of the gold and silver seized on the first day of vehicle checking in Greater Hyderabad exceeded Rs 10 crore.
In Shankarpally, Cyberabad police station area, Rs 80 lakh in unaccounted cash was discovered in a car. Special police forces were deployed in South and West zones of Hyderabad, and vehicle checking took place throughout the night. In Vanasthalipuram, Rs 4 lakh cash was seized, and a large number of cookers were confiscated from two individuals attempting to distribute them in the local area. In Film Nagar, Rs 20 lakh was seized from a car. The police have stated that these checks will be conducted regularly in the city.
People who are carrying cash exceeding Rs 50,000 are advised to carry the necessary documents to prevent their money from being seized during travel.
