    G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology & Science for Women has achieved a major milestone by opening the Rekhi Foundation for the Science of Happiness Centre. This is the first centre of its kind in South India and is part of a global network with 25 centres across five countries. The inauguration took place on the International Day of Happiness, highlighting the centre’s dedication to promoting well-being.

    The centre will focus on various activities, including academic programmes, advanced research, community engagement, and the development of well-being technologies. It will also offer outreach training to help students, faculty, and the wider community improve their overall happiness and mental health.

    The inauguration event was led by Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Chief Secretary for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications (ITE&C), and the Industries & Commerce Departments of Telangana. In his speech, he stressed the importance of positive psychology, especially considering the mental health challenges faced by young people today.

    Mrs. G. Srividya Reddy, Vice-chairperson of GNITS, expressed her pride in the institution for being the first in South India to launch such an initiative. The college principal, Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, emphasized how the centre would help create a culture of well-being, positivity, and support among students and society.

    Mrs. V. Jahnavi, the centre’s coordinator, outlined the key areas of focus and the strategic plan for achieving the centre’s goals. The initiative aims to make a positive impact on mental health and happiness in the academic community and beyond.
