Hyderabad: Justice Ghose Commission Expresses Displeasure Over Lack of Evidence from V Prakash
The Justice Ghose Commission, investigating the Kaleshwaram project, expressed frustration with former Telangana Water Resources Development Corporation official V Prakash for not submitting affidavits backed by documentary evidence. The Commission also warned Prakash to refrain from making political statements during the open house inquiry.
On Wednesday, the Commission cross-examined Prakash about the affidavits he had submitted. It emphasized that oral comments were not sufficient and insisted that proper evidence must support any statements or affidavits presented to the inquiry.
The Commission questioned Prakash about the decision to shelve the Pranahita-Chevella project and instead construct the Kaleshwaram project. In response, Prakash explained that the massive lift irrigation scheme was built in response to public demand. He also addressed questions about the construction of the Medigadda barrage, which involved canceling the earlier Tummidihatti project, and clarified the role of expert and sub-committee observations on these decisions.
Speaking to reporters, Prakash claimed that the Commission was being misled regarding the Medigadda project. He denied allegations that the retired engineers’ expert committee advised against constructing Medigadda. Similarly, he stated that the government’s sub-committee had not expressed such an opinion either. Prakash asserted that the previous government had considered public demand and expert engineers’ opinions before proceeding with the project. He also claimed that the Commission responded positively to his explanations.
