GHMC to Impose Fines for Water Wastage and Road Damage

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has issued notices in various divisions asking people to maintain cleanliness on roads and conserve water. The notice states that people should use eco-friendly materials like buckets to clean their surroundings instead of water pipes and curb the use of plastic materials. Those found flouting the norms will be imposed with heavy penalties, including a fine of Rs 5000. The GHMC has urged people to stop washing their houses and surroundings, cleaning their vehicles with water, and throwing it on the main roads leading to water stagnation and damage to the roads.

The GHMC has clarified that the notice was issued by local division offices and not by the GHMC head office. However, the GHMC has supported the initiative taken by local division offices. The GHMC is concerned about the damage caused to roads due to water overflow, which could cost several crores for the state government to get them repaired. People who are responsible for releasing water on roads, throwing waste, using below 50micron plastic materials, and littering public places will be imposed with heavy fines as a deterrent.

The GHMC has conducted various awareness programmes on water wastage, but people continue to waste water every day. To address this issue, GHMC zone officers will conduct surprise visits every morning and impose penalties on those who waste water to wash their houses, vehicles, and shops. The GHMC has warned people of strict action like penalties and criminal cases for those releasing water on the road. The GHMC has urged people to cooperate with them in maintaining cleanliness on roads and conserving water.
