GHMC seals Banjara Taj, reopens after partial payment

Hyderabad authorities have taken strict action against property tax defaulters by sealing a well-known hotel in Banjara Hills. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sealed the Taj Banjara Hotel after it failed to pay outstanding property tax dues of ₹1.43 crore.

The hotel, owned by the Taj Group of Hotels, had reportedly ignored multiple payment notices from GHMC over the past two years. On Friday, the hotel management paid ₹55 lakh as a partial payment and assured officials that the remaining amount would be cleared by March 10. Following this, GHMC officials removed the seals and allowed the hotel to resume operations.

GHMC has intensified its crackdown on property tax defaulters across the city. Officials have warned that similar strict actions will be taken against other businesses and establishments that fail to clear their dues.

This enforcement drive is part of GHMC’s broader effort to recover unpaid property taxes from both commercial and residential properties. The recent action against the star hotel serves as a warning to other defaulters who have been avoiding payments despite repeated notices from the authorities.
