Rangareddy: The GHMC-Rajendranagar staff are celebrating a big win this year after collecting a record Rs 53.3 crore in property tax so far for the financial year 2024-25. This is an increase from last year’s total of Rs 51 crore.

Last month, the civic body collected Rs 3.44 crore in a single day, which added to their success and boosted staff morale. The GHMC-Rajendranagar operates in the southern part of the city and has seen strong cooperation from local taxpayers.

According to K Ravi Kumar, the deputy commissioner, the department had set a target of Rs 54.3 crore for this year. So far, they have already reached 98% of that goal. The revenue was collected from 48,022 properties, including both homes and businesses.

Last year, the department collected Rs 51 crore from 47,528 properties. This year, they surpassed that amount even before reaching the final target. Ravi Kumar shared his excitement about collecting over Rs 3 crore in just one day last week.

He credited the success to timely payments from taxpayers and the hard work of his team. He also explained that this money helps the city improve roads, build stormwater drains, maintain parks, install streetlights, and keep the area clean.

The funds are also being used for special projects like improving traffic junctions and painting bridges. These beautification efforts are made possible with the collected taxes.

Ravi Kumar also mentioned the “early bird scheme,” which gives a five percent discount to those who pay their property tax early. He said the collection drive will continue and expressed hope that they will meet or even exceed their goal this year.
