GHMC prepares for torrential downpours

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has made a plan to handle heavy rains and keep residents safe. They will clean and maintain sewerage lines, water drains, and roads to prevent waterlogging. They have also issued notices to owners of old buildings to fix or demolish them before the rainy season.

Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor Mothe Sreelatha Reddy, and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose visited the control room of the GHMC office. They asked about complaints and the steps being taken to resolve them. The weather department predicted heavy rains for the next few days, so the minister advised people to stay home unless it’s an emergency.

GHMC has 455 teams working, including 399 Monsoon Emergency Teams and 30 DRF teams. People can call the GHMC control room for emergency services. The Commissioner said that teams are responding to complaints like water stagnation, uprooted trees, and sewage overflow. Garbage removal and sanitation programs are also continuing, and damaged roads are being repaired.

Mayor Vijayalakshmi mentioned that there are rehabilitation centers and relief centers set up in different areas. GHMC has 1097 motors to remove water and 9 teams for garbage disposal. They are monitoring ponds and have identified water logging points.

Complaints received in the control room or the DRF control room are addressed on the same day. Field workers are on alert during heavy rains. A total of 2,111 personnel are working in three shifts as part of the Monsoon emergency team, DRF, and CRMP team.
