GHMC intensifies efforts to combat mosquito-borne diseases

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s entomology wing recently conducted a special drive in schools to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. GHMC commissioner Amrapali Kata emphasized proper sanitation in surprise inspections across the city. The entomology teams were instructed to visit homes and take steps for mosquito prevention.

Chief Entomologist Dr Rambabu mentioned that over 30,000 students in 150 schools were educated on preventing mosquito-borne diseases during an awareness drive. The entomology staff also conducted door-to-door visits to remove stagnant water and identified mosquito-breeding sites. Door-to-door surveys were carried out in over 4,800 colonies, focusing on areas with high population densities.

A joint effort by the entomology and health departments is being made to address the issue. Various public representatives and officials are involved in spreading awareness about health programmes. The commissioner directed officials to remove garbage from vulnerable points in the city and install information boards for citizens’ awareness.

Efforts are being made to ensure proper sanitation and garbage removal on a daily basis to prevent the spread of diseases. Amrapali stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness at ground level and taking proactive measures to keep the city clean.
