A grand Shide programme took place at the Ganga Mantrallamma Thalli Utsavam near Janupalli village in Koderu mandal, Nagar Kurnool district. This festival follows a unique tradition that has been practiced for many years in Telugu states.
As part of the tradition, a designated person called the Bharikarra stands at a height of 30 feet at the back of the temple chariot. The temple’s chief priest, Maddileti, performed a ritual by walking around the chariot (pradakshina) and blessed the devotees by applying turmeric.
Many devotees from different regions attended the event. The Mantrallamma Thalli Utsavam begins on the Amavasya (new moon day) after Shivaratri and lasts for fifteen days. The temple committee has made special arrangements to ensure the comfort of the large number of devotees who have come to offer floral tributes.
