Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started demolishing a four-story building in Siddiquinagar after it suddenly tilted on Tuesday evening, causing panic among residents.
The incident occurred without warning, prompting one of the occupants, identified as Iqbal, to jump from the building in fear. He sustained injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
A contractor was hired to carry out the demolition, which is being conducted using a long-breaker hydraulic crane. The structure, built on a 70-square-yard plot, is expected to be fully demolished within two days to eliminate any further risks.
The building’s owner, Laxman, revealed that excavation work on an adjacent plot for a cellar had compromised the foundation, leading to the tilt. GHMC officials decided to demolish the building to safeguard nearby homes. Police have cordoned off the area to prevent crowding and ensure the safety of residents during the operation.
