The G7 foreign ministers met in Japan and released a statement that focused on Russia and China. They urged China to stop making threats and to refrain from increasing tensions in the East and South China Seas. The G7 also promised severe consequences if Russia uses chemical, biological or nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Belarus, which supports Russia’s war on Ukraine, will also face severe costs. The G7 foreign ministers stressed the need for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. They also condemned the ongoing fighting in Sudan but only made a small mention of North Korea and Myanmar. The G7 leaders will gather for a summit in Hiroshima.
