The government has provided Rs 18.22 lakh for the construction of a Dhokra Bhati-cum-Workshop in Sadeibereni village. This is to promote Dhokra art and craft, which is popular in both national and international markets. The Textiles and Handicrafts department released the funds for the project, and the work is currently underway. The workshop will help artisans make better and more craft, benefiting 255 Dhokra artisans in Saptasajya gram panchayat.
Additionally, the government has given Rs 1.20 lakh to each of the 31 families in Sadeibereni village for the construction of workshed-cum-house. Currently, the artisans are constructing their own houses-cum-worksheds. Dhokra artisans in Sadeibereni gram panchayat, Hindol, and other places in the district are involved in making Dhokra crafts.
However, some artisans from Nuagaon and Sadeibereni villages are still waiting for assistance from the government to build their houses. Last month, during a visit, the artisans of Nuagaon village requested intervention from the 5T Secretary regarding this matter.
Dhokra products made by these artisans are exported to Gulf and European countries through TRIFED and other agencies, according to Sanatan Padhan, an artisan and master resource person for Dhokra products.
