Senior Congress leader Dharmapuri Srinivas has passed away at his residence in Hyderabad. He died at 3 AM due to a heart attack after battling health issues. Many have shared their condolences for his loss.
Srinivas was born on September 27, 1948, in Nizamabad district. He completed his degree from Nizam College before venturing into politics. He first became an MLA in 1989 after contesting from Nizamabad Urban on a Congress ticket. He won elections again in 1999 and 2004. Srinivas also served as a minister during the Congress party’s governance in united Andhra Pradesh.
After the state bifurcation, he joined BRS in 2015 and became a Rajya Sabha member before returning to Congress. Srinivas leaves behind two sons, one of whom is currently an MP from the BJP and the other who previously served as the Mayor of Nizamabad.
Dharmapuri Srinivas’ political journey began when he entered politics as a student union leader. He worked with NSUI and the Youth Congress before being elected as an MLA multiple times. Srinivas held ministerial positions and played significant roles in the Congress Party, including serving as PCC President during elections.
He also served as an MLC and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council after Telangana’s formation. Srinivas briefly switched parties but returned to Congress after disagreements with BRS during his Rajya Sabha tenure.
