Chennai Super Kings will not have Ben Stokes for the IPL 2023 playoffs because he will play for England in a test match against Ireland on June 1. Stokes was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 16.25 crore but had to sit out most of the season due to injury and only played two games, scoring 15 runs and bowling one over.
CSK shared a message on social media wishing Stokes well for his national duty, and England’s one-off Test against Ireland is preparation for their Ashes series against Australia. Australia will face India in the World Test Championship Final at The Oval from June 7 before facing England in the Ashes.
Meanwhile, CSK will play Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on May 23, having secured their top-four spot after beating Delhi Capitals in their last league game. Lucknow Super Giants are the third team to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. LSG’s opponent for the Eliminator on May 24 will be decided after Royal Challengers Bangalore face Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians host Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.
