First-time trial of Nari Shakti in Goshamahal

Goshamahal, a suburb in Hyderabad City, has never been won by AIMIM in the past. This time, the Congress has chosen Nari Shakti M Sunitha Rao to challenge the saffron and pink brigade in the Assembly seat.

Goshamahal is known for its well-preserved palace, Goshamahal Baradari, which was built by the Qutb Shahi rulers. This palace is one of the few that survived the destruction during Aurangzeb’s siege of the kingdom.

Sunitha Rao, the State Mahila Congress president, is a former teacher turned Advocate who has been fighting for women’s rights. She is the first Mahila Congress president to run for Assembly. Previously, they were given MLC posts.

As a BC leader from the Mudiraj community, Sunitha is confident that the women in the constituency will support her based on the 6-guarantees announced by AICC. She has been actively campaigning door-to-door and focusing on local civic issues. The constituents have also expressed concerns about harassment from the current MLA.

Sunitha believes that times are changing and women are now more aware of the lack of progress made by the present MLA. They are interested in receiving monthly honorarium, gas cylinders, and free bus travel. They want welfare and development, not just politics.

Areas like Dhoolpet suffer from a lack of proper PDS provision, and many families do not even have ration cards. The people of this constituency understand that BJP and BRS are similar and want a leader who will work for them. Congress has always advocated for women empowerment and reservation, unlike BRS which offers only seven seats to women and AIMIM which does not encourage women’s participation.

In Congress’ first list, six women, including Sunitha Rao, have been given a place. This shows that our party believes in giving women their rightful place in politics.
