In Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, farmers planting paddy during the early monsoon are uncovering valuable diamonds. The farmers, unaware of the diamonds’ worth, were taken advantage of by local traders and jewelers who quickly bought up the valuable stones.
Within a week, ten diamonds were discovered, with traders paying large sums to acquire them. On a single day, two diamonds were found in Jonnagiri by agricultural laborers. News of the discoveries attracted people from nearby villages and neighboring states to search for diamonds in the drylands.
A farmer from Madanantapuram village recently found a diamond and sold it to a local trader for Rs 15 lakh. In Jonnagiri, laborers found two diamonds, with one selling for six tolas of gold and Rs 6 lakh in cash. The second diamond, yet to be auctioned, was estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh.
