The Shamshabad airport metro stretch in Hyderabad was checked by HAML MD NVS Reddy on Wednesday. The stretch is 1.3km long and is being built on hills, boulders and valleys. After checking, officials made some important decisions. They will install protective barriers of adequate strength and height to stop any boulders from falling toward Outer Ring Road (ORR). The gap between the metro alignment and ORR crash barrier is only about 18 feet.
The team has suggested that boulder stabilisation works should be completed with experts and protective fencing should be placed on the left side of the metro viaduct. They also suggested exploring the possibility of constructing the metro viaduct on stubs or low-rise pillars to avoid rock removal.
