Dr. Rangarajan explained that Development Studies is inherently multi-disciplinary, connecting fields like Economics, Political Science, and Statistics. Political Science, for instance, helps in understanding how the benefits of economic principles are distributed in society. He also stressed the importance of relating Development Studies to foundational disciplines like Statistics.

He further elaborated on the close relationship between public policy and Development Studies. Using an example from the education sector, Dr. Rangarajan demonstrated how public policy outcomes often involve qualitative elements. He encouraged scholars to explore beyond classroom teachings and delve deeper into the subject matter.

Additionally, he reflected on his association with former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, praising his vision and courage in public policy, supported by strong academic expertise.

Dr. Sameer Sharma, the former chief secretary of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, attended the event as the guest of honour. He urged the scholars to approach the programme with enthusiasm and an open mind for learning.
