Enrollment in Government Junior Colleges Declines in Hyderabad

The number of first-year Intermediate enrolments in government junior colleges in Hyderabad has been low compared to last year, despite the application date being extended. According to TSBIE officials, there have been 59,463 enrolments this year, compared to 77,211 last year. This drop is due to the establishment of residential junior colleges in every district, which most students prefer.

In the past, contract junior lecturers used to campaign door-to-door and enrol students in government junior colleges. However, very few campaigns have been conducted this year, which may be the reason for the low enrolment.

Some lecturers have mentioned a lack of teaching facilities, especially in science and commerce faculty, as the reason for the low response. They have also suggested that the board should organize a meeting with students and lecturers’ associations to come up with a plan to improve admissions.

Dr. P Madhusudhan Reddy, president of the Telangana Government Junior Lecturers’ Association, has stated that there have been very few enrolments across Telangana junior colleges compared to last year. He attributes this to the failure of TSBIE in providing infrastructure and textbooks on time.

Overall, the low enrolment in government junior colleges can be attributed to the preference for residential junior colleges, lack of campaigns, and inadequate teaching facilities and infrastructure.
