Egyptian embassy worker killed in Sudan fighting
An assistant administrative attache at the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum was killed during clashes between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the army in the Sudanese capital. The worker, Muhammad El Gharrawi, was on his way to help Egyptians stranded in Sudan when he was killed. The Sudanese army originally reported that Egypt’s assistant military attache had been killed, but later corrected its statement to say that the assistant administrative attache had been killed by fire from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Egypt’s foreign ministry confirmed the death and expressed its condolences. The fighting between rival military factions in Khartoum North has been ongoing, causing smoke to rise from buildings.
