The Telangana Olympic Association (TOA) is all set to hold its elections on Thursday at the Hyderabad Olympic Bhavan. These elections will decide key positions, including the President, General Secretary, Treasurer, and other important posts within the association.
For the role of President, two notable candidates are in the running: A.P. Jitender Reddy, who serves as an Advisor to the State Government, and V. Chamundeswar Nath, Vice President of the Badminton Association of Telangana. The General Secretary position is being contested by P. Mallareddy and Baburao. Meanwhile, the Treasurer’s seat has two contenders as well—Satish Goud and Pradeep Kumar.
In addition to these top positions, elections will also be held for several other roles, including four Vice Presidents, four Joint Secretaries, ten Executive Committee members, and five Executive Committee members representing district Olympic associations. However, since there is only one candidate nominated for each of these posts, they are likely to be elected unopposed.
Justice C. Praveen Kumar, a former judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the election process. A total of 65 representatives from various sports associations, who form the electoral college, will cast their votes.
Polling will be conducted between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM on Thursday, with vote counting scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM. The results are expected to be announced shortly after the counting is completed.
In a related matter, the Telangana Boxing Association has approached the Hyderabad City Civil Court regarding concerns over the TOA elections. As a result, the court has issued a stay on announcing the election results until the issue is resolved.
